In 1992, I and my wife founded an advertising agency Tähtikuviot Oy (constellations). The freedom to think and create in our own way has been a fuel can that still makes me feel like a 20-year-old designer. Feel that anything is possible when you remove the unnecessary boundaries from thinking. The key is to make the customer dream and participate in creating something new.

POSTER DESIGN

When the Lahti Poster Biennial announced the competition to find a poster for the 2001 Biennial, Immediately came the idea of Flasher, and I quickly made a sketch of about two centimeters size. When I enlarged it to A3, I shouted to my colleagues that I would win this competition. In the end, I used this little original drawing as the original for the final poster. It was born with such a relaxed grip that there was nothing to repair. The poster won the competition.

BOOK DESIGN
Often diamonds come by chance. Initially, the Finnish Foreign Ministry asked my wife Magi Viljanen to take part in a photography project depicting women in Mozambique and Finland. Mozambican photographer Rui Assubuji would photograph women in Finland and Magi in Mozambique. My wife got the idea to ask women three questions; What did you dream of as a child? What changed your life? What are you dreaming about now? Rui was enthusiastic about the idea and also asked the same questions from Finnish women. As Magi and Rui read the answers, they noticed how similar those were. The idea for the book was born. Eventually, the photo exhibition also became a book launch event. The book was selected for the collection of the most beautiful books in Finland.

THERE ARE NO LIMITS TO IDEAS
The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) organized a poverty-campaign in 2010. Initially, it was planned to carry out only three roll-ups for material of the year. When I drove with my wife for the first meeting, it was a beautiful winter day and snow was glittering. We were wondering what kind of material we would like to do if we got free hands. We were thinking that President Tarja Halonen could declare the start the year of poverty at the Kemi Snow Castle. Portraits of the poor people in Finland could be hung into the snow walls of the entrance hall, and the audio speakers behind the pictures could include stories told by them. When we got to the meeting, we were so excited about the idea that we wanted to tell it at the beginning of the meeting. Our client liked the idea and this was how the material for the Year of Poverty was realized. 50,000 people saw the exhibition. On the last day of the exhibition a heavy storm destroyed the exhibition. And that got to the local newspaper.
